Anna M. Kees

Biography

Attorney Anna Kees grew up in the Milwaukee area and attended DSHA High School and Marquette University. She earned her J.D. from Marquette Law School in 2009. After law school, she worked for a small firm in the Fox Valley area of Wisconsin practicing criminal defense for a few years before moving back to Milwaukee to work for another small firm practicing criminal defense throughout Wisconsin. In 2016, she joined the State Public Defender’s Office and practiced criminal defense in their Waukesha office for almost 10 years. While at SPD, she honed her courtroom litigation and client communication skills while working on some of the most notorious cases to come through that office. She also served as a member of the Drug and OWI Treatment Courts, helping to protect the constitutional rights of the participants in treatment court and bringing a defense perspective to strategic and future planning within the treatment courts. In her work at SPD, she litigated every case type, including but not limited to drug possession and distribution, child pornography possession and distribution, Len Bias and other homicides, and other general felonies. She conducted countless evidentiary hearings in all stages of the system and argued numerous cases to jury trial. In her work at Crivello, Nichols & Hall, her litigation practice focuses on civil rights litigation, insurance defense, and other general defense avenues.

When she’s not working, you can catch her going to museums or parks with her daughter, drinking wine at Nonfiction in Bay View, traveling to Pitbull and other millennial-era concerts with friends, or cheering on Marquette basketball.
